Paper Submission Information
Call for paper abstracts (closed)
The Design Frontier is seeking paper abstracts from design educators and practitioners that address issues in design education for 20-minute presentations in conference breakout sessions. We are particularly interested in topics that address the challenges of teaching in small or new programs, and in programs in non-urban settings without adjacent professional communities. All papers will be published on the conference website www.designfrontier.org.
Suggested topics for papers:
- collaboration and networking strategies with other programs and the professional community
- building a faculty far from a professional design community
- facilitating long-distance communications and overcoming isolation
- student and faculty exchange programs
- curricula for small faculties
- teaching graphic design history without specialized history faculty
- internships and placement methods
- visitor sharing and other strategies for maximizing tight resources
- distance learning and online resources
- trans-disciplinary and intercollegiate courses
- community outreach
- scholarly development
- and anything else pertinent to the conference theme!
The paper abstracts will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- addressing the theme of graphic design education in small, new and nonurban programs
- significance to the graphic design education community from high school to PhD programs
- implications for practice and theory of graphic design
- advancements of methods, theories, form-making
- originality, insight and creativity of the contribution

Paper abstract submission format
Please follow this format very carefully!
- Your abstract's text (no outlines) must be formatted as a PDF, vertical letter-size, 2 pages maximum. Please head your abstract with a list of three to five key words that describe it's subject matter. It is essential that your name and institution name not appear on the PDF, to facilitate the blind judging process. Please title your PDF file as an abbreviation of your paper title and use the file extension .pdf (example: titlename.pdf ).
- Attach your submission PDF to an email titled "Design Frontier Abstract" in the subject line. In your email, include your paper abstract title, your name, telephone, mailing address and email address.
Paper abstract submission deadline: September 29, 2006
Paper abstract acceptance email notification: October 30, 2006
Full paper final copy digital file deadline: December 2, 2006.
